The family only lived in the home for three years before it was repossessed and they were forced to move. The city of Tupelo bought the house and surrounding land in 1957, and today the property is a historical site that is also home to the singer’s childhood church and a museum. A large percentage of what most people think about as early Elvis happened while he lived in this house. He recorded “Hound Dog;” he bought his mother the iconic pink Cadillac; he wore the famous gold lamé suit for the first time (trying it on for the first time in front of 1034’s living room fireplace). The Million Dollar Quartet Recording Session happened in December of 1956, when Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash all had a jam session at Sun Studios in Memphis, an incredibly historic moment in music history.

Upon Elvis’ death in 1977, his father Vernon Presley served as the executor of his estate. Lisa Marie became the sole heir of the estate; her inheritance was held in a trust until her 25th birthday, on Feb. 1, 1993. The land was in the Toof family for generations and was named after one of the family’s relatives, Grace. In 1939, Grace’s niece, Ruth Brown Moore, and her husband Dr. Thomas Moore, built the mansion, which became well known to Memphis locals.
Presley has been laid to rest alongside his parents on the grounds of the Graceland estate, in the Meditation Garden.

Previously owned by McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, Presley’s home on West Chino Canyon Road in Palm Springs, was designed by legendary architect Albert Frey, also known as the father of Desert Modernism. Frey designed the Spanish Colonial house in 1946, and the singer bought the four-bedroom home in 1970. After Presley’s death, Four Seasons singer Frankie Valli purchased the home.
